Vancouver Summer Fishing Report

VANCOUVER FLY FISHING AUGUST 2017

July was a busy month for us with guided trips in Vancouver and even through some high river conditions we generally made out quite well on the smaller tributaries of the Squamish River, including the Ashlu and Mamquam.  The majority of fish we were finding were small cutthroats and rainbows, many taking dry flies off the surface. River levels are still on the high side but they’re finally on the drop and we’re expecting some great fishing as the pink salmon run begins.

Pink salmon move into the Squamish River every odd year (2013, 2015, 2017 etc) so this is our year to enjoy the wonderful fishery for chrome salmon on the fly within an hour of Vancouver. We’ll be fishing the lower sections of the Squamish and Mamquam rivers for pink salmon, within only a few miles of open ocean. This means silvery bright fish with appetites to crush the swung fly.  Starting in late July through to mid September is a great time for a pink salmon fly fishing trip on the Squamish, with lots of action and incredible backdrops.  Trips include transportation from Vancouver, professional guide services, all wading gear and fly fishing equipment!

Availability for our August Vancouver fly fishing trips as I write this report on July 24th is at about 70%, we are getting booked up so not a bad idea to book something sooner rather than later.  If you’d like to book a trip, call toll free is 1-877-902-3393 or email Greg at the office vancouverfishingtrips@gmail.com and we can get you fly fishing with our crew in Vancouver.

VANCOUVER SALMON FISHING REPORT AUGUST 2017

Like with all fishing we’ve had some good days and some tough days. The local salmon fishing was a bit tough in June and July, we certainly would have liked to have seen a bit more action locally on our 5 hour half-day trips but there were still fish around and lots of fun to be had. The longer full-day 10 hour charters were the way to go, with solid fishing for chinook (king) salmon off the southern Gulf Islands.

As we move into August we should be seeing much better local salmon fishing near Vancouver, especially off the mouth of the Capilano River, the West Vancouver shoreline and the Bell Buoy. There’s been some really nice fish around already and August is a very busy month for us. If you’d like to book an August salmon fishing charter in Vancouver get in touch with us now, space is extremely limited.

You can have a look at our Vancouver salmon fishing trip page here. There is good availability through most of May, some weekends are a bit booked up, but we can usually make it work if you’re looking for a trip.

VANCOUVER STURGEON FISHING AUGUST 2017

Summer sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River is always a no-brainer, with lots of hard pulling fish around. August is the start of prime time sturgeon fishing season, the Fraser River is on a drop after high river levels through the Spring and the less turbulent water makes for easier conditions for our guides.

August is again a busy month for our sturgeon fishing trips, but we do have availability and can hook you up with either of our two locations. Our Chilliwack sturgeon fishing location is the most accessible from Vancouver, only 90 minutes east of the city. Our Canyon trips depart from Hope BC, about 2 hours from Vancouver and will put you into the most remote big sturgeon water found anywhere in the world! Either are great options, you can have a look at our Vancouver sturgeon fishing trip page here for more info on what we offer. There is open availability through May, so email us or call Greg at the office toll-free 1-877-902-3393 to book a day of sturgeon fishing.
