2022 SALMON FISHING FORECAST

LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER YEAR

During the 2021 season there was solid chinook salmon fishing in Howe Sound (accessed on full-day trips) in April and May. This year we’re are hoping for the same, with healthy populations of baitfish in local waters. Keep in mind there may be some fishing regulation changes in place, starting April 1, 2021. Please contact us for up-to-date fishing regulations and catch allowances.  June & July see a mix of salmon fishing, with varying numbers of fish locally.

July through mid September is when you’ll find some nice weather conditions and a variety of Pacific salmon in the waters around Vancouver. During this time it is possible to catch chinook, coho, chum and pink salmon. Runs of fish move through at different times, there’s days when there are good numbers of salmon locally, while other days there’s more work put in to finding those bites! Overall we’re hoping for a good year of fishing and for travel restrictions to lighten so everyone can come and enjoy the salmon charters we have here in Vancouver BC.

SUMMER SALMON FISHING

PRIME TIME FOR FISHING IN VANCOUVER

From July through to September our local waters around Vancouver offer consistent salmon fishing for all five species of Pacific salmon, including chinooks (kings), cohos (silvers), pinks and sockeye. This is a popular time for salmon fishing in Vancouver, with generally nice weather and favourable ocean conditions. The fishing we do in the Summer months is usually done locally, along the West Vancouver shoreline or off the mouth of the Fraser River. The Fraser River is home to healthy returns of salmon each Summer. Come August and September the focus is fishing for bigger chinook (king) salmon with generally shorter runs from the boat moorage. This is often when the biggest fish of the year get caught, with the chance at catching a salmon in the 15-25 pound range!.

WINTER & SPRING SEAFOOD SAFARIS

SALMON, CRABS & PRAWNS RIGHT FROM THE CITY!

Winter fishing? You bet, Vancouver enjoys a 365 day a year salmon fishery. Winter months offer fishing for local chinook salmon. Waters team with life during the Winter months, as feeder (juvenile) chinook salmon come into Vancouver harbour and Howe Sound to feed on wintering bait. With variable weather conditions fishing can be sometime tricky, but if you don’t mind a bit of cold then there are ample Vancouver salmon fishing opportunities to be had. Spring months offer some very good fishing in the Howe Sound area, north of Vancouver. This inlet, flanked by snow capped mountains, and dotted with small islands offers a solid rearing ground for chinook salmon that feed on the herring. Winter and Spring are great months for prawns and crabs as well, offered on our full day charters.
