Vancouver Fishing Trip Report May 2019

After wrapping up a super busy April, so busy in fact I missed the monthly Vancouver fishing report, we’re now into May, and things have mellowed out a bit. What to expect for fishing in May, some great options around Vancouver, with sturgeon and salmon fishing being the two best choices for a May fishing trip in Vancouver BC. Unfortunately our fly fishing trips are a bit tougher with high water conditions, but below we run down what to expect on each of our Vancouver fishing trips…

Vancouver Fly Fishing Trips May 2019

April was a blast, we had some unbelievably beautiful water conditions throughout April and fishing was good for bull trout and steelhead. Thanks to all the great folks that fished with us in April, we really had an awesome month, super busy and so nice to see people enjoy a genuine fly fishing experience so close to Vancouver!

In early May our local rivers began to rise and rise quickly. The unusually warm weather of early May caused for a faster than usual snow melt, bumping river levels up. This is common in early May, with melting snow causing high river conditions that are sometimes not amenable to good fly fishing. The Squamish River saw the most drastic change, rising several feet over a few day period. It is mid May now and the Squamish is definitely out and not fishing, the smaller tributaries including the Ashlu, Cheakamus and Mamquam rivers are all also high, but clarity is good.  As we move later into May river conditions should start settling out and we’ll be back to having nicer scenarios to fish.

Once the rivers shape up, we’ll be fishing for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout and bull trout. There is also some lake fishing options within close proximity to Vancouver, we focus our trips on fishing Levette Lake close to Squamish and we’ve been having some really good days there on nice sized rainbow trout. Also for May and June we’re running our Vancouver beach fly fishing trips, which aren’t for everyone, but if you’re dying to get a line wet and want to experience a unique to British Columbia fly fishing trip then they are an option. We’re fishing Furry Creek and a few other beach spots along Howe Sound and having success on sea-run cutthroats which are a lot of fun to catch on the fly!

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report May 2019

Can’t complain about the salmon fishing in Vancouver right now, it’s been a super solid start to the year, with good ocean conditions, loads of bait and the fish are loving life because of it.

May salmon fishing in Vancouver is focused mainly on the southern Gulf Islands, Howe Sound area and backside of Bowen Island. These are all accessible from the charter boats downtown moorage in Vancouver. Hop on board and you’ll be fishing within 30 minutes of Vancouver, with a great group of experienced guides on fully equipped Grady White sport fishing boats!

The Salmon fishing has been pretty consistent all day long, we offer 5 hour half-day trips, 8 hour mid-day trips and the 10 hour full day trip. Vancouver salmon fishing is a great activity, especially if the weather is nice, for all levels of angler and all group sizes. There has been some regulation changes to retention limits, but we are still fishing, open for business and fishing has been excellent. No big travel plans, you can enjoy an affordable fun day on the water salmon fishing right from Vancouver with our crew.

We have available dates throughout May and June, summer months of July and August are already beginning to fill up. Book a  Vancouver salmon fishing charter with us email Greg & Yos at chromersportfishing@gmail.com or call toll-free 1-877-902-3393.

BC Sturgeon Fishing Report May 2019

Sturgeon fishing close to Vancouver is kicking up again after the Winter. There certainly is Winter sturgeon fishing in British Columbia, but April and May are when the season really gets going and some of the better fishing begins taking place for bigger fish. Since I missed our April report, here’s what is happening this May for our Fraser River sturgeon fishing trips…

May has been super solid on the Fraser, and so was April. We’ve had a lot of sturgeon fishing trips happening this Spring and spent a day with guide Kevin Estrada in early May and shot a new Fraser River sturgeon fishing video, it’s on our Vancouver sturgeon fishing page now. The fishing was really good, we landed 8 fish on the day, all over 5 feet!

If you’re looking for a Fraser River sturgeon fishing trip with top guides we do have available dates throughout May and June but keep in mind July, August and September are super busy already, so Summer bookings should be made now!
