Vancouver Fishing Report July 2019

July has been a great month so far for fishing in and around Vancouver. We’re enjoying nice ocean and river conditions, pretty decent weather, although it’s been wetter than usual, and solid fishing on all our recent trips. There’s an early push of pink salmon in the Squamish River system, there has been an abundance of chinook salmon on our Vancouver salmon fishing charters and sturgeon fishing has been nothing short of incredible this year.  A quick break down of our top three July Vancouver fishing trips starts now…

Vancouver Fly Fishing Trips July 2019

Generally July can be a tricky month for us but we’re enjoying one of the better Julys for fly fishing we’ve had in a long time. River conditions have cooperated nicely and we’re surprised to see the first push of Pink salmon into the Squamish River!

Early in July we spent most of our time fly fishing some of the smaller tributaries including the Mamquam, Ashlu and Elaho rivers. These are all tributaries of the Squamish River system and our go to summer fly fishing home waters. Lots of smaller rainbows being caught on small nymphs and dry flies. Bigger rainbows and some bull trout are being caught on stream patterns and larger stonefly nymphs. Our local Vancouver fly fishing rivers are all in great shape and should continue to be so through the July and August.

We’ve been seeing some Squamish River pink salmon show up early in July which is definitely a good sign. On odd years, 2017, 2019, 2021 etc we are lucky enough to have a pink salmon fishery that usually starts in later July. This year the pink salmon are moving into the Squamish River early and that may mean we’re in for a very healthy run of pinks this year. Here’s some more info on Pink Salmon Fishing in British Columbia, if you’re interested in a trip let us know, we’ll be happy to get you out for a fun day on the river, less than an hour from Vancouver.

Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report July 2019

June showed us some unreal salmon fishing and it has continued into July.  There were a ton of chinook (king) salmon in our local waters all through June and now into July, numbers are keeping pace, one of our best years of Vancouver salmon fishing ever!

For the most part our July Vancouver salmon fishing trips are focused on coho (silver) salmon and pink salmon, but this year is different as there are significantly more chinook salmon in local waters, so we are getting really lucky with this summer’s salmon fishery.

On our 5 hour Vancouver salmon charters we are staying local, fishing the local harbour and shorelines near Vancouver. On our full-day trips we are traveling further, fishing the southern Gulf Islands and Howe Sound.  There’s been some BIG fish in Howe Sound this week, even a few in the high twenties and one over 30!  Most half-day trips are hooking between 2-7 fish and full day salmon charters are usually much better, with larger numbers of fish a bit further out.

We have available dates throughout July and August, so if you’d like to book a  Vancouver salmon fishing charter with us email Greg & Yos at chromersportfishing@gmail.com or call toll-free 1-877-902-3393.

Vancouver Sturgeon Fishing Report July 2019

Again, some absolutely incredible fishing through June and July on our Vancouver sturgeon fishing trips that take place on the Fraser River east of Vancouver.

July has seen some monster sturgeon, including one of our biggest ever, at a 55″ pectoral girth, it is estimated at about 600 pounds!!  Our daily trips are seeing between 3-7 fish per day, usually some bigger ones and a few absolute beauties over the 9 foot mark. Not too many places in the world can you go and catch a 9 foot fish. If you’re interested in some big game fishing while in Vancouver then sturgeon fishing is the way to go, you can check our our new Fraser River sturgeon fishing video, it’s on our Vancouver sturgeon fishing page now. The fishing was really good, we landed 8 fish on the day, all over 5 feet!

If you’re looking for a Fraser River sturgeon fishing trip with top guides we do have available dates throughout July and August but keep in mind we are getting super busy, and dates are at a premium. Email Greg & Yos at chromersportfishing@gmail.com or call toll-free 1-877-902-3393.
