Fishing Vancouver BC May Report

May is always an interesting month for our Vancouver fishing trips, it’s a time of some transitions, rivers levels are rising and saltwater salmon fishing in Vancouver heats up, and this May 2018 has been no exception.

Fly Fishing Report May 2018

We’ve had a really warm May and the sudden heat has played a bit of havoc on our freshwater river fly fishing trips near Vancouver. We usually have good fly fishing conditions into mid May, but this year with temperatures in the 20-25 degree range (mid 70’s fahrenheit), melts much of the low laying snow and river levels shot up quite quickly. All part of guiding here in the wilds of British Columbia, just too bad it happened a bit earlier than usual and we lost a few weeks of the river season. Fishing was just getting really good too, some beautiful bull trout and steelhead found their way to our flies!

This high water unfortunately put many of our river based Vancouver fly fishing trips with less than favourable conditions. But, we always have a few tricks up our sleeves, we did move over to our saltwater beach fly fishing program a bit earlier this year. This is a unique fishery, beach fishing for cutthroat trout within 30 minutes of Vancouver. We offer full-day and half-day beach fly fishing trips through May & June. If you’re looking to book a Vancouver beach fly fishing trip we have openings in later May and some in June, but suggest booking early as dates are filling up. Salmon Fishing Vancouver May 2018

Vancouver salmon fishing has been on fire!  Absolutely some of the best fishing we’ve seen in a long time near Vancouver. Pair that up with some beautiful weather of late and nice sea conditions, this has been an excellent May for salmon fishing in Vancouver. May is generally always a good month locally, we always see some very solid chinook (king) salmon fishing during May in Vancouver.

We offer three different salmon charters from Vancouver; a half-day 5 hour trip, a mid-day 8 hour trip and a full-day 10 hour trip.If you’d like to book a Vancouver salmon fishing charter with us, we have open availability throughout late May and into JuneJune. If you’re looking for some later dates, in July and August keep in mind we are booking up for those prime spots quite early. Vancouver Sturgeon Fishing Report May 2018

Like with our Vancouver fly fishing trips, our sturgeon trips in May are affected by high river levels as the freshet kicks into high gear and the Fraser River starts a steady climb upwards. This doesn’t mean we can’t go fishing though, and although conditions may be a bit tougher in May than they are the rest of the year, fishing for white sturgeon on the Fraser River remains pretty consistent. It also helps we have a great guide crew of the Fraser River’s most experienced sturgeon fishing guides, the guys who can put you in all the right spots to maximize success regardless of river conditions!

If you’re looking for a really cool Vancouver fishing trip, then you should certainly keep this option in mind. We offer sturgeon fishing at two unique locations on the Fraser River, both around 90 minutes, give or take from downtown. There’s great fishing also Summer and Fall.

If you’d like to book a Fraser River sturgeon trip with us, email us at chromersportfishing@gmail.com or give us a call toll-free in North America 1-877-902-3393.
