BULL TROUT FISHING TRIPS

GUIDED FLY FISHING IN SQUAMISH

Looking to get out fishing near Vancouver this Winter? Options can be a bit limited, but our guided flyfishing trips run all Winter long, putting you into on wild rivers within an hour of Vancouver. The focus of Winter fishing is swinging flies for wild bull trout, mainly on the Squamish River and its tributaries. We offer a few different guided trips, including a full-day, a half-day and even guided drift trips. You can visit our main Vancouver fly fishing page for more info on who we are and what we offer.

Bull trout are native to the rivers of British Columbia’s southern Pacific coast. They’re a favourite target species of trout for anglers, as they’re found in few places around the world. We’re very lucky to have a healthy population of them on the rivers we guide on!
Our fishing guide staff has been guiding on the Squamish River for many years and is comprised of the most experienced guides in southwestern BC. All our bull trout trips during the Winter months are built to maximize your day of fishing and teach your new fishing skills along the way! Regardless if you’re an experienced angler, or new to fishing, our flyfishing guides will take excellent care of you while on the water.
Our reviews speak for themselves, if you’re shopping around for a fly fishing trip be sure to visit our Trip Advisor page and see what our clients are saying about us. We’re proud to have received the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for the past five years!

Bull trout are catch and release only. Always check the BC Freshwater Fishing Synopsis before heading out.

BEST FLIES FOR BULL TROUT FISHING?

The flies we use for targeting bull trout include big streamer patterns, salmon egg patterns and salmon fry flies. Favourite colours include olive, white and purple.

BEST TIMES TO CATCH BULL TROUT?

Bull trout can be caught year-round but late Fall and Winter are very good months to target these fish on BC's south coast. This is when trout are feeding on the remnants of the Fall salmon runs, eating eggs and flesh.

BULL TROUT FISHING TIPS!

FROM GUIDES WHO CAN CATCH ‘EM

Winter bull trout fishing can be tricky. They can be elusive and conditions have to be right for fishing to be good. Here are a few fishing tips to get you into more trout if you’re out on your own…
Bull trout like moving water with protection. Fishing near log jams or cutbanks will prove more affective than fishing wide open water.

River conditions are key in the Winter months. Low clear water will make for tough fishing. Better trout fishing is had when rivers have colour and are on the rise.

Switch up your retrieves. Short sharp strikes on streamer patters will often initiate a trout strike.

Cover your water. If you’re not getting bites, move and cover as much river as possible.

Handle fish with care and caution. Release fish unharmed and keep them wet. Don’t pull them onto the rocks or sand.

Hopefully those are a few quick tips that will help you if you’re headed our river fishing. Check out this, my favourite Squamish River bull trout fly, with tying instructions on our Chromer Sport Fishing website.
