Vancouver Fishing Report July 2018

We’re in the depths of Summer, it’s the third week of July 2018 and we’ve been crazy busy with all our Vancouver fishing trips.  The heat of July has played a bit of havoc with some of our trips, but we’re making the most of it and still finding nice fish! As we move into August, keep in mind we’re really busy, so if you’re looking for a fishing trip in Vancouver contact us using the links below and we’ll get you hooked up with some great fishing this August.

Vancouver Fly Fishing Report July 2018

July hasn’t been the easiest month for our fly fishing trips, inconsistent river levels have caused us a few headaches. With hot days, the rivers rise and then drop as it cools, we don’t always know what we’re in for but hopefully most of the lower snow accumulations will have melted and we get some more fishable conditions in August.

That being said we’ve still had some really good trips in July so far, generally fishing the upper Cheakamus River which, when the dam isn’t open, offers very nice river conditions and very little pressure. There’s some big resident rainbows caught on our recent trips. Our clients have also enjoyed some good fishing off the local beaches, we’re seeing the odd chinook (king) salmon caught on our guided beach fishing trips and some beautiful sea-run cutties as well.  As we move into August, we’ll have some more river options, including the Mamquam and maybe even the Squamish main system, swinging bigger flies for resident bull trout.  Our Vancouver fly fishing trips in August are getting pretty busy, so if you’re looking for a trip please email the office chromersportfishing@gmail.com or call toll-free 1-877-902-3393 to book.

Salmon Fishing Vancouver July 2018

Well after a really crazy Spring of saltwater salmon fishing in Vancouver, July has slowed down a bit. There’s still some really good fishing on the southern Gulf Islands, those areas that we can access on the full-day 10 hour charters. On those trips we’ve seen an average of 5-10 hookups, with lots of better sized chinook salmon in the 15+ pound class.

The half-day 5 hour charters where we fish locally have had some slow goes that last two weeks unfortunately. We wish it was a bit better on the local Vancouver waters, but it has been a bit tough. That should all change as we move into August and September, that’s when we see our best local Vancouver salmon fishing, off the shores of West Vancouver. Some big salmon around that time of year as well, big chinooks in the 20+ pound class that are headed up into the Capilano River system.

We still do have some good availability for August and September if you’re interested in a Vancouver salmon fishing charter with us.  Email Greg & Yos at chromersportfishing@gmail.com or call toll-free 1-877-902-3393 to book your Vancouver salmon charter.

Vancouver Sturgeon Fishing Report July 2018

Sturgeon fishing has been frickin crazy on the Fraser River, our team of guides have been putting Chromer clients on a pile of big fish all of July, one of the best Julys for sturgeon fishing in a long time!

Our Remote Canyon Trips have seen multiple fish over 8 feet in the past few weeks, and lots in the 6-7.5 range.  Pretty cool that this fishery is producing big fish like this, many of them untagged, meaning they’ve probably never been caught before. If you’re looking for a really cool fishing trip close to Vancouver then our Fraser River sturgeon fishing adventures are hard to beat and a uniquely British Columbia experience.  These monster white sturgeon are the biggest freshwater gamefish in North America and we’ll put you into the heart of where they live.

August and September are getting quite booked up, so if you’re looking for some primo sturgeon fishing dates let us know asap, we’ll do our best to get you fitted into the schedule and hanging on to some of these prehistoric beasts!

If you’d like to book a Fraser River sturgeon trip with us, email us at chromersportfishing@gmail.com or give us a call toll-free in North America 1-877-902-3393.
